The District Governor's Annual Visit
IN PERSON meeting at the Highland Country Club. 11:30am buffet lunch with Club meeting from 12:00 to 1:00pm
Our District Governor Sonja Glass and her husband Dave began their relationship with Rotary in 1994 when they agreed to be Host Parents for a Rotary Youth Exchange student. In 2016, 10 students later and their own kids off to University, they decided that they would become Rotarians with the Rotary Club of Meaford. Shortly thereafter, Sonja accepted the role of club secretary and then two terms as club president. In 2021-23 she was the Area 1 Assistant Governor.
Sonja retired in 2017 from a career in health care. As a nurse, she worked in critical care for several years, taught nursing at the college level, managed the nursing department in a rural hospital and eventually served on a senior management team as the Chief Quality Officer.
Sonja and Dave have travelled annually to Ukerewe Island in Tanzania since 2014 with the Canadian African Community Health Alliance to provide volunteer medical service. When their son Simon (an engineer and Mississauga Rotaractor) travelled with them in 2018 and 2019, they started working to address the clean water challenges on the island that caused so many of the illnesses that they were seeing. Since that time, they have installed 7 wells with the assistance of District 6330 grants. With support from our club, they have also done several initiatives with the local orphanage and hospital to address maternal and child health, resulting in a significant drop in maternal and neonatal fatality rates.
The couple were gifted with two grandchildren by their daughter Shiona and enjoy their role as Nana and Grampa.
Sonja and Dave are both members of the Paul Harris Society, members of the Polio Plus Society and Level 2 Major Donors.
