The status of Drayton Entertainment in these Covid-19 times

Alex Mustakas is the founding Artistic Director and CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer, as he likes to refer to it) of Drayton Entertainment, one of Canada’s largest not-for profit theatre organizations.

Alex has been involved in the theatre community in Waterloo Region since his years as an arts student at Eastwood Collegiate in Kitchener where he also became significantly involved with the Waterloo Regional Gilbert & Sullivan Society and Kitchener Waterloo Musical Productions.

After earning a business degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, Alex chose to pursue the performing arts, ultimately spending several years as a professional actor. He then became interested in theatre administration and pursued a Master's Degree in Arts Administration at City University in London, England.

When he returned to Canada, he launched the Drayton Festival Theatre in 1991 out of a tiny, virtually unused theatre in the crossroads community of Drayton. Eventually, his connection to Alan Lund would come full circle as Lund then directed Vaudeville, the first production in the inaugural season at the Drayton Festival Theatre. Drayton operated seven live performance productions in Drayton, Cambridge, Grand Bend, Penetanguishene and St.Jacobs.

In March 2020, Covid-19 halted all theatre productions, Alex will talk about how Drayton pivoted to continue to provide quality theatre entertainment in South West Ontario.
