From 1985 – 1987 she lived for two years in a L’Arche community in the North of France and  was inspired by this experience to study Social Work,  and completed  her Master of Social Work Degree at Wilfrid Laurier University. Today she serves in the role of Community Leader/Executive Director at L’Arche London.  She is privileged to be part of this community, engaged with others in the mission of L’Arche which is “to make known the gift of people with intellectual disabilities, a gift revealed through mutually transforming relationships”.
L’Arche London is part of L’Arche – an International, Inter-faith organization, L’Arche has over 150 Communities around the world, consisting of communities in which people with and without disabilities share life and daytime activities together in family-like settings that are integrated into local neighborhoods. In London L’Arche has three homes where people with and without disabilities create home and community together. They have opened the Gathering Place in Lambeth in September, 2017. The Gathering Place Community Hub is the home of the L’Arche London Day and Evening Programs – a place of meaningful engagement.

During the REMEMBERANCE DAY MEETING Ian Davies shared the story of a relative--William Redver Stark, the Soldier and the Artist--use this link to discover more of the story.  https://thediscoverblog.com/2014/08/04/william-redver-stark-the-soldier-and-the-artist/  Canada’s experience of the First World War was captured by officially commissioned artists such as A.Y. Jackson and David Milne from 1916 onwards through the Canadian War Memorials Fund. However, many other artists—amateur and professional—captured their experiences of the war while they were busy fighting, building roads, transporting goods or providing care to others, but still creating vivid imagery of the world around them. The William Redver Stark fonds at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is a rare illustrated record of one of these undeclared artists’ lives in the military. Through 14 sketchbooks of remarkably well-preserved drawings and watercolours, we discover the life of a soldier through his eyes, which were closer to the action than those of his official counterparts, and which provide a more spontaneous, intimate perception of how day-to-day activities may have looked. In these sketchbooks, we find images of soldiers at work and at rest, captured German prisoners and artillery, landscapes through which battalions moved, and sights at the London Zoo where Stark went while on leave. The illustrations serve as a rich and indispensable complement to the artist’s military file, to his battalion’s history, and to our visual understanding of a serviceman’s experience during the First World War.

--WORLD POLIO DAY WAS OCTOBER 24TH--
Rotary has put together a short video program (less than 30min) to explain where we are in the campaign to eradicate Polio. The global eradication of polio has been the highest priority of Rotary clubs in Canada and around the World since 1985. Over the years, Rotary has provided US$2.2 billion to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Although we getting close to our goal of eradication, Polio still exists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. If you are short on time, the segment of the eradication efforts in Pakistan is very interested (although if you are more science oriented the portion regarding vaccines is also very interesting.) You can help eradicate Polio in these two countries by making a donation to Rotary's End Polio fund at: https://www.endpolio.org/donate  (And every dollar you donate via Rotary will be matched 2:1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation resulting in three dollars towards Polio eradication.)  If you are a Rotarian, please remember to login to the website using your Rotary International account (as donations to the End Polio fund count towards Paul Harris Fellow status.)
