Our guest speaker on January 11th will be David Wood.
David was born in family home “Woodeden”, which his father gave to Easter Seal Society to create first Easter Seal Camp. While in high school he worked for two summers as a counsellor at Merrywood Camp. Growing up in Toronto, then attending; Crescent School, University of Toronto Schools, Victoria College (BA, Hon. Psych.), Harvard Business School (MBA). He co-founded Crystaplex Plastics, which grew to be Canada’s largest industrial plastics distributor, manufacturer, and fabricator. Business was volatile in the period 1965 -1980, with capital short, he and his partner developed an exciting business model, which maximized employee participation, leading to minimum need for supervision, and maximum service and performance to customers. It worked exceptionally well. Around 1980, David switched fields to work in addictions, running treatment centres in Canada and the USA, and wrote Canadian national standards for addiction counsellors. Crystaplex was then sold, to the great profit of its long-term employees, who had become shareholders. The 1990s were spent in Germany, where his partner did post-graduate work, and jointly founded and ran a small corporation. Since 2000, David has been working with some high-tech companies, doing addict counselling, and attempting to age well.
---VOLUNTEERING---
RCL is looking for Volunteer Service Opportunities to support our community. If you are involved with an organization or know of an organization that is in need of volunteers, please email our Local Community Services Chair, Heather Broadhead, Heather@bfg-inc.ca, with a detailed description of the need and requirements. From there, a call will go out to our members to assist.
More and more people since Covid 19 hit are spending time on the internet, some for good reasons and others for criminal reasons!

---CHEQUE PRESENTATIONS---
On Nov 25th at RBC Place, past President Howard Shears presented a Rotary Club of London Foundation cheque to Glen Pearson of the London Food Bank to help pay for lunches that are being prepared by RBC Place Executive Chef David VanEldik and Executive Sous Chef Chris Podgornik. These funds were donated by members in lieu of lunch money and matched by the RCL Foundation. Hot lunches are served on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and soon Saturday and cold lunches are served Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Lunches are picked up by 519 Pursuit and other organizations and personally delivered to those in need. A proud moment for the Rotary Club of London and RBC Place!
