Our guest speaker on February 22nd will be Gordon Mathes,
Superintendent Gordon B. Mathers, SBStJ, CD, BAppBus:ES, AEMCA, CMM II Medavie Emergency Medical Service Elgin Ontario. Superintendent Gordon B. Mathers was born and raised in Petrolia, Ontario. A graduate of Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute in Petrolia, then attended Fanshawe College and Lambton College, graduating with a diploma in Health Sciences. Then he enrolled in the Paramedic Program at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario and graduated in 2002. Following nine years of frontline paramedic experience, Gordon graduated from Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta with a Degree in Emergency Service Management, specializing in emergency and disaster management. Additionally, he is accredited as a certified municipal manager by the Ontario Municipal Managers Institute of Ontario. In addition he is currently a Major with the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Central) and provides leadership and command support to multiple Cadet Units in Southern Ontario. Upon promotion to his current position with Medavie, he was tasked as the Service’s health and safety coordinator, business continuity manager, disaster management representative to upper and lower tier municipalities, and the policy and procedures coordinator; in additional to frontline supervision of daily paramedical operations in the County of Elgin. In his personal life, Gordon is married to another Army Officer, his wife Tara and they have two young sons, Trevin and Bryson, and is a private pilot, flying out of St. Thomas airport. His education and experience has made him a critical asset to Medavie Health Services with everything COVID-19 related for the Service and supporting other services and allied agencies has allowed him greater flexibility to ensure patient and paramedic safety. With over 19 years of emergency medical experience, Gordon looks forward to speaking and answering our questions related to the impact of COVID-19 on paramedic operations.

If you are involved with an organization or know of an organization that is in need of volunteers, please email our Local Community Services Chair, Heather Broadhead, Heather@bfg-inc.ca, with a detailed description of the need and requirements. From there, a call will go out to our members to assist.

Kathleen Murphy's term as AG is complete on June 30th. If you are interested in being the next Area 4 AG, please contact Kathleen within the next 2 weeks so she can share a little bit about the role. The Interact Club of London is still selling Cookie Mix in a jar, the cost is $12 for the cookie jar and $10 for hot chocolate. The money will go to a local charity that supports women and children.
