The global eradication of polio has been the highest priority of Rotary clubs in Canada and around the World since 1985. Over the years, Rotary has provided US$2.2 billion to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Although we getting close to our goal of eradication, Polio still exists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. If you are short on time, the segment of the eradication efforts in Pakistan is very interested (although if you are more science oriented the portion regarding vaccines is also very interesting.) You can help eradicate Polio in these two countries by making a donation to Rotary's End Polio fund at: https://www.endpolio.org/donate (And every dollar you donate via Rotary will be matched 2:1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation resulting in three dollars towards Polio eradication.) If you are a Rotarian, please remember to login to the website using your Rotary International account (as donations to the End Polio fund count towards Paul Harris Fellow status.) --CHRISTMAS KETTLES-- We have a note from Salvation Army stating that anyone taking part must have proof of vaccination. This important Bursary program provides commitment and encouragement annually to two students to help support their post-secondary music education goals with a $1000 cash award. The bursary honours the work of late Ken Palmer (Oct. 5, 1948 - Oct. 30, 2013) who was an integral part of the London music scene for more than 40 years as a performer with the Dixie Flyers (FCLMA Hall of Fame), Artistic Director of Home County Music & Art Festival (15 years), and as a music teacher/mentor to young musicians. Since 2016, there have been ten $1000 bursaries awarded to London & area students including this year's winners Angela Metron (Catholic Central) and Kate McLeod (Woodstock Collegiate Institute). The FCLMA and the Ken Palmer Music Bursary jury congratulates these outstanding young students and hopes this award will help them with their scholastic goals in music.
