Our guest speaker on July12th will be Al Slivinski, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Western University. Al earned a PhD in Economics from Purdue University in 1980, and has been a faculty member in the Department of Economics at The University of Western Ontario for 41 years, a number he finds utterly shocking. He served as Chair of the Department from 2001-2007, then did a victory lap in that position in 2009-10.
In his time at Western he has taught courses in everything from political economy to macro-economic policy, and has done research on elections, patents, nonprofit organizations, and toilet-cleaning. His teaching fields are Microeconomics and Public Finance and his research interests are in Models of Political Elections and The Economics of Non-profit Organizations. He believes his greatest achievement at Western has been to avoid becoming a university administrator, and his greatest regret is his failure to understand whatever logic is supposed to underlie Excel. Today he will talk on an economic perspective on a Universal Basic Income.
