Exciting Update on Our Community Bakery Project! At the March 23, 2026, meeting of the Rotary Club of London, World Service Committee Chair Keith Morrow updated members on the significant progress we’ve made on our community bakery project, which has overcome numerous challenges since its inception prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ROTARY IN ACTION-Rotary Club of London plus 6 other Rotary Clubs and 3 Rotary Districts plus Rotary International contributed $107,109-USD to finance the cost of 64 Child Heart Surgeries in India. The portion that aligns with Rotary Club of London, it's District and related Rotary International contribution amounted to $42,000-USD.
Lead Rotary Club in India has now been involved with 3 Child Heart Surgery projects working in a similar fashion with Rotary Clubs & Districts around the world. Over 300 surgeries have been completed.
Sept 2025-Rotary Club of London-World Community Services committee will provide $27,000.00-Cdn to restart a pre COVID stalled Global Grant project in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Spring 2025-Rotary Club of London-World Community Services committee and Rotary of Cotonou Airport-Benin-Africa in partnership built a new canteen/kitchen for the Ouokoume Public School.
In 2024 the World Community Services committee packed 50+computer laptop bags with primary school student supplies.
In 2022 the Club commenced a World Community Services project to replace all the student desk & chairs, teacher desk and cabinets in a 6 grade school in Tehuantepec, Mexico.
In May 2021-Rotary Club of London-World Community Services provides $1,750.00-CDN to provide communal toilets adjacent to a health clinic in a poor indigenous community in Mexico
Haiti Project-2017-approximately $30,000.00-CDN over two years. Aquin, Haiti is a city of approx. 100,000 on the Caribbean seacoast, about three hours' drive southwest of the capital Port-au-Prince. In an otherwise beautiful location, the residents, farmers and fishermen of Aquin are chronically poor, short of potable water and safe sanitation, and vulnerable to storms, floods, cholera, Zika, and suffer from high maternal and infant mortality. The Rotary Clubs of London has been involved in a multi-year, multi-club initiative in partnership with the Haitian Resource Development Foundation and other international donors to help the people of Aquin via projects in the areas health and education and economic development (fishing, boat-building, mangoes, coffee, and honeybees.)
The Market Children Scholarship Program ( <2015) Danli, Honduras. For several years, Club members supported this program by provided $100.00/student uniform & supplies costs. This project assisted 480 students to attend school in Danli Honduras, by supplying the students with the required uniforms, shoes, back packs and books and fees for extra activities.
As part of the Centennial projects year in 2015, the Paul Harris School, Salina Cruz, Mexico (Rotary Club of Salina Cruz)-$10,000.00-CDN. Named after the founder of Rotary, the Paul Harris School is an elementary school serving 380 students in an impoverished area. After 30 years of use, the school electrical and septic systems were in desperate need of upgrade. This will be accomplished through a donation by Rotary Club of London.
As part of the Centennial projects year in 2015-The Empowerment Project (Women in Rotary)
Rotary Club of London will provide a matching fund of up to $5,000 to the Empowerment Project. The project, sponsored by Women in Rotary, will facilitate micro-financing to women entrepreneurs in developing countries around the world, to enable them to use their talents to lift themselves out of poverty.
