Sept 2025-Rotary Club of London-World Community Services committee will provide $27,000.00-Cdn to restart a pre COVID stalled Global Grant project in Oaxaca, Mexico.
The project started pre-COVID, stopped during the pandemic and has been challenging to restart. The supporting membership of the sponsoring R/C in Arizona has turned over post COVID, and the Club lacks financial resources. The building structure lacks a roof to make the building envelope secure so that the balance of the work (electrical/plumbing/sanitary, etc.) can be completed. The cost to complete is indicated at CAD$27,000.00 covering 5 primary categories. Completion of the roof to enclose/secure the structure in the most urgent. To date USD$40,000 has been spent on the project with RI providing $31,440-USD, the balance coming from R/C Xquenda, Mexico.
Upon completion the site will be used as a teaching bakery operated as a not for profit enterprise. The goal is to train members of the community is artisan bread making, marketing & management while maintaining the culture of the Zapotec indigenous population.
