In 2022 the Club commenced a World Community Services project to replace all the student desk & chairs, teacher desk and cabinets in a 6 grade school in Tehuantepec, Mexico.
The Paul Harris School was built in 1979 on land donated by a Rotarian. In 2014, as part of the Rotary Club of London’s 100 Anniversary, $10,000 was donated to assist with electrical and water upgrades to the school.
The school accommodates 380 elementary students in 2 sittings. While the students come from low-income families, the parents are very involved in the maintenance of the school. Not all classrooms had desks, and the students sit at small tables on benches.
The project will be completed in 2 phases
Phase 1(fall 2021 and spring 2022) to replace the furniture in Grades 1,2 and 3.
Phase 2 (Summer/fall 2022) to replace the furniture in Grades 4,5 and 6.
Upon completion purchase expenditures total $25.000.00-CDN.
