Barb Botten, owner, publisher and editor of Villager Publications, is a born-and-bred Byronite with a passion for community. Barb holds a marketing degree and, for most of her career, held Executive Marketing positions across Canada with Corporations such as Herbal Magic Weight Loss and GoodLife Fitness. Her passion for history and community has always been a driving force in her volunteer roles with Easter Seals Canada, the Parkinson’s Foundation and the Women’s Community House. With a background in media and communications, Barb transformed her passion into Villager Publications, a small business that produces local magazines for London and the surrounding area, each reflecting the community’s strong sense of connection.
On January 19, 2026, members of the Rotary Club of London spent our monthly volunteer night at the London Food Bank, sorting food in preparation for community distribution. We were pleased to be joined by members of the Fanshawe Rotaract Club, whose energy and commitment reflect how Rotaract helps instill Rotary values of service, leadership, and community engagement in young people. Together, Rotary and Rotaract work side by side—learning from one another while making a meaningful impact. These volunteer evenings may seem small, but they play an important role in the broader effort to support individuals and families across our community. Service above self—at every stage of life.
--MEMBERSHIP APPROVE TWO PROJECTS--
On January 12, 2026, the Rotary Club of London held a Special General Meeting and approved two major service initiatives — one strengthening our community here at home, and one advancing lifesaving care abroad. Local Service Chair Don Stevens presented the case for supporting the London Food Coalition’s new refrigerated food-rescue truck, noting that in the past three years our Club and Foundation have contributed over $159,000 toward community improvements. Members voted to approve $15,000 toward this critical vehicle, helping expand London’s capacity to rescue and redistribute surplus food to 27 agencies across the city. World Service Chair Keith Morrow then outlined the international partnership Global Grant supporting pediatric heart surgeries in India which will fund lifesaving operations for children who cannot otherwise access cardiac care. Members approved $22,000 CAD in support, enabling Rotary’s matching structure to multiply our impact. It was a unanimous spirit of “Service Above Self” as both motions carried. Rotary in action — locally and globally. Following the affirmative vote President Lian Bardaweel commented ""I’m incredibly proud that these approvals reflect the heart of Rotary’s mission — taking meaningful action both locally and globally. By supporting the London Food Coalition, we’re strengthening food security and dignity in our community, while our investment in lifesaving pediatric heart surgeries reinforces Rotary’s belief that where a child is born should never determine their chance to live. Proud of our members for supporting initiatives that deliver lasting, measurable impact."
